Shaolin-Do History In Texas

Starting many years ago, I set out to create the largest and most exciting Shaolin-Do school in the world. Before Master Don's move to his new space 8 years ago, the North Austin school was indeed the largest Shaolin-Do school in the world. During those early years, we had masters visiting quite often for special training and classes and the black belt and lower belt students were involved in most every event. The black belts of those years are now 3^rd degree black belts and above and are considered the "old school".

Over the years that followed, a combination of the failing economy, increasing rents (bad decisions and property tax increases) and decreasing enrollments, took its toll on the school. If you can believe it, as recently as a year ago, I was paying $15,000 a month in rent. Well I am happy to say that has changed and is changing even more in the near future. Through the help of many of my most loyal friends and students over the past couple years, and the efforts of my students to bring in friends, the school was rescued and is growing stronger each month. We are in the final stages of getting back on track, both financially and in the level of student involvement. Anyone around me all these years will tell you that I am capable of re-inventing myself and my school endlessly.

As a group, the Shaolin-Do students of Texas can make a big difference. The contributions (of all kinds) of each person added together has immense power. In order to raise money for the school and raise the motivation and level of spirit, I have created a special martial art weekend with none other than Elder Master Eric Smith. If you do not know of Master Smith, let me tell you a bit about him. As a student of Grandmaster Sin, he is second only to Master Bill Leonard in our system, in terms of his famed skill and knowledge. I have taken many seminars from him over the years and they have had a profound impact on me at many levels.

       It has been at about 7 years since he has been to our school and it was way over due. In fact it has been that long since he taught a seminar anywhere. He is most famous for his skill in using the internal arts of Tai Chi and Pa Kua for sparring. His training for these arts is very pragmatic and often unorthodox. He will push your thinking and training to a brand new level.

       So keep in mind that no more than a handful of students at any school has even met him and now it is your turn. Black belts even get something more special as they get to attend a special seminar on Saturday night, just for them. No matter what belt level you are, you will get more from this seminar than you could imagine. Your training will be shaped by his lessons for years to come.

       Lifetime students, this seminar is not covered by membership. It is very important as a fund-raiser for the school and you will be doing yourself a favor AND greatly helping the first and original Shaolin-Do school in the state of Texas. The cost of this seminar is absolutely CHEAP compared to the impact it will have and the years it will stick in your mind.
