How Does Shaolin-Do Compare To Other Schools?
If you even think I made this information up, then read this when your done.
How much does martial art training at many OTHER schools cost?
The average cost for 3 classes / week of martial arts in the Austin area is around $120/month. Over and above this amount, most schools require a $100-300 registration fee. In addition to that there are copious test fees occurring every couple months for $50-100.
Why are many other schools so expensive?
This is called “front loading” and is evidence that very few students actually stay for any length of time in their school. Since any full-time school must remain profitable to stay open, these schools have learned to get all their money right away before the student looses interest.
Read this frightening story of a martial art school charging unbelievable prices.
(this is written below)
Why is Shaolin-Do so affordable?
Our plan is the exact opposite. We find that students never want to leave our program; therefore we don’t have to charge outrageous amounts of money in order to stay in business. In other words, WE DON’T “FRONT LOAD”, because we don’t have to.
Aren’t all martial arts basically the same anyway?
Absolutely not! There is a pretty simple test you can use to see if a martial art school is offering something of value.
Step #1 Visit the school.
Step #2 Count the number of adult students.
Kids are pretty much happy just having fun in a class and wearing a cool uniform. Adults however are not turned on by belts, patches, trophies, stamps or little stickers. Adults are very critical and will only continue to pay for something that has real world benefits; in other words it must make their life better.
So, if you don’t see many adults at the school then the curriculum probably doesn’t have much merit.
Step #3 Count the number of adults that have trained in the school beyond the first level of black belt. Many people will try hard to get their black belt, but then feel they’ve crossed the finish line and promptly quit. You see, they were in love with the idea of getting a black belt.
However, if they continue to train beyond that point it means they were in love with the style of martial arts that is being taught and the positive effects it has on their life.
How do we rate for this test?
Speaking for the North Austin school, our numbers look like this.
80% of all students are adult.
30% of those are female
30% of all adult students are black belt level or higher.
50% of the black belt students have been training over 5 years and are 2nd degree or higher.
BOTTOM LINE:
If your goal is to reach black belt or higher and feel a real sense of accomplishment then you have a 10x greater chance of doing that in our school. In the average school, 1 student out of every 100 reaches black belt. At Shaolin-Do, usually 10-15 out of every 100 reach their goal of black belt or higher.
How can these people sleep at night?
This story comes directly from a new student at Shaolin-Do, describing their past experience at
an ATA (American Tae Kwon Do Association) school in the Austin area.
The intro special was $700 for 6 months of Tae Kwon Do classes ($117/month).
During that six months their child tested several times at $60/test. Sometimes they didn’t even receive a new belt, just a small patch to iron onto the belt.
Then after 6 months they were told that they now had to choose between one of two programs. They chose the cheapest, at $180/month for a 2 year contract. However, this program also required a one-time registration fee of $600.
This story really knocked me over. Then I realized that nobody probably ever stayed for more than about 3 months of this program (they couldn’t afford to). When I added up the registration fees, test fees and the tuition for 3 months I then realized that the total was already more than I get for a year of tuition from my Shaolin-Do students.
They’re creating QUITTERS!
Now do you understand front loading? They aren’t planning for you to even advance in the art. They are counting on you quitting!
